Message of Paul VI

To our dear son Charles Matagne
Director of the 'Nouvelle Revue Théologique'

For a century, the « Nouvelle Revue Théologique » has provided its distinguished contribution to the development of the sacred sciences and education for the clergy in the various fields of theological teaching: dogma, exegesis, history, philosophy, catechesis and apologetics. In the continuation of the renewal brought about by the persistent labours of Father Jean Levie, this journal has endeavoured to combine a most accurate doctrinal solidity with an openness to research and to the problems of the Church of our time. Substantial bibliographical information, as well as an excellent chronicle of the Acts of the Holy See, succeed in providing monthly publications which possess the quality of precious instruments of religious culture.

So it is with great confidence that We congratulate the philosophy and theology professors of the philosophical and theological college of St Albert, Leuven for their contribution to the life of the Church, by way of the international reputation of the « Nouvelle Revue Théologique ». We sincerely hope that the work achieved so far continues to grow in fidelity to its rich past, as with the living Magisterium of the Church, and to bear much fruit, in this post-Conciliar period marked for the Church as for the world by so many questions and bearing so many rich and promising hopes.

In these sentiments of trust We call down upon you, your collaborators and your readers, an abundance of divine grace, in pledge of which We grant you Our paternal Apostolic Blessing.
