Filial life, challenge of the Church-Family of God

The building of the Church-Family of God in Africa cannot be brought about without taking on the challenge of a filial life, the concrete translation of the gift of our filial adoption in Christ himself the gift of God. This translation implies a process of “Christo-conformation” bringing Christians into the gift of Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit who interiorises the filial likeness to Christ in concrete reality. Wherever everything is filial, there opens up the possibility of following this path.

Voilà vingt-cinq ans que la première Assemblée spéciale du Synode des Évêques pour l’Afrique s’est achevée (1994). Rappelons qu’à travers la Proposition 8 des pères synodaux, reprise par le pape Jean-Paul ii dans Ecclesia in Africa 63, cette Assemblée a consacré l’image de « l’Église-Famille » comme voie d’évangélisation et d’inculturation pour l’Église en Afrique1. À cet effet, beaucoup d’Églises particulières, sur ce continent, en ont fait la ligne directrice de leurs plans pastoraux2. Une quinzaine d’années plus tard, en 2009, sous le pontificat du pape Benoît xvi, une deuxième Assemblée spéciale pour l’Afrique, avec l’exhortation apostolique post-synodale Africae munus (2011), offrit à l’Église-Famille de Dieu une stratégie d’action pour sa mission.
