This text approaches the realisation of the European Economic and Monetary Union as a study case in social ethics. It evaluates the goals which the «euro», the projected common European currency, will eventually permit Europe to pursue. It then studies the different stages of this realisation to better appreciate the ethical implications. The conclusion is that without the «euro» Europe and its ideals will undergo a certain failure, but with the «euro» there still remains much to do in terms of social justice and political union.
