La demande de pardon de Jean-Paul II et ses implications théologiques
Pierre Gervais s.j.The act of demanding forgiveness undertaken by John Paul II, on the first Sunday of Lent, 2000, is unique in the history of the Church. It modifies in depth our understanding the mystery of the Church. And it enables us to internalize into Christian conscience the concept of «collective memory». This event takes place in a precise context: that of the end of the XXth century, where, confronted with the multiple horrors the century has witnessed, there immerges, as the works of Jacques Derrida and Paul Ricoeur illustrate, the question of the duty of «rememberance» and of «forgiveness».
