The depenalization of euthanasia has become a subject of parliamentary debates in several European countries. The author first proposes several semantic clarifications in order to pinpoint with greater exactitude the end of human life in various categories of law. He then engages in a fundamental, mainly philosophical, reflection that leads him to challenge the alleged human right of disposing of one's life. Finally he draws some conclusions applicable in the field of legislation.
