The fiftieth anniversary of the discovery of the Death Sea scrolls has given rise to various learned initiatives, the results of which are now available. They give us a clearer appreciation of what is certain and of what remains a matter of opinion. We have a better and different knowledge of the ethical and cultural systems from which Christianity emerged and from which it separated, which Paul of Tarsus calls « Judaism ».
