On the road to faith: the apologetic process according to the Acts of the Apostles

The proto-narrative of Acts 2 (the day of Pentecost) and the emblematic apologetic speech of Acts 17 (before the Areopagus) implement, each in its own way, a whole apologetic process carefully examined in this article. Some indispensable elements for a renewed apologetics are thus better highlighted. While providing a biblical foundation for that which recent fundamental theology has singled out in the area of apologetics, the study suggested here allows us to draw attention to aspects which are still too often neglected.

Dans un article sur la nouvelle évangélisation, Mgr Rino Fisichella souligne l’importance d’une apologétique renouvelée1. Dans le cadre du renouveau de l’apologétique entamé déjà à la fin du xixe siècle2, mais surtout dans le sillage du concile Vatican ii3, il ne faut pas d’abord envisager la défense (apologia) de la foi avec son caractère éventuellement polémique, mais se situer à l’intérieur de la branche « apologétique » de la théologie fondamentale : il s’agit donc de présenter la Révélation en tant que digne de foi pour l’homme d’aujourd’hui, c’est-à-dire en tant que crédible pour sa raison et aimable pour sa volonté, la foi engageant tout l’homme, mais cette présentation doit être placée dans son contexte propre, c’est-à-dire dans la démarche conduisant à la foi.
