Drawing on Louis Bouyer’s distinction between “theology on” and “theology from,” this article seeks to develop a theology from the Sacred Heart, in light of Pope Francis’s 2024 encyclical Dilexit nos. The author highlights the dialogical, sacramental, and symbolic dimension of the Heart of Christ as a unifying principle for theology, a place where Christ’s gestures and words converge, and a hermeneutical center for the entire Christian mystery.

En son temps, Louis Bouyer, dans le chapitre premier de son livre Eucharistie (1966), invitait à distinguer clairement « théologie de l’eucharistie » et « théologie sur l’eucharistie », à « tirer la théologie de l’eucharistie de celle-ci, plutôt que d’ajouter encore à la prolifération médiévale et post-médiévale des théologies sur l’eucharistie1 ». Que reprochait-il à ces théologies sur l’eucharistie ? De n’accorder « aucune place à l’“eucharistie” au sens premier du mot, à la grande prière eucharistique traditionnelle » : elles ne procèdent pas d’elle, mais viennent « s’y appliquer du dehors, tant bien que mal, ou se rédui[sent] à la survoler sans jamais daigner prendre contact avec elle2 ». De ce fait, elles dégénèrent d’une part en réflexions…
