Vertus, communautés et politique: la philosophie morale d'Alasdair MacIntyre
Ronan SharkeyAn adequate understanding both of the value and of the limits of Alasdair MacIntyre's moral philosophy requires not only that we avoid simplistic labels, but also that we resituate that philosophy in the context of tensions arising from the confluence of a number of apparently heterogeneous currents of thought. The present article, which provides an overall evaluation of this original and controversial philosophical synthesis, attempts to arrive at a balanced set of conclusions as to its apparently anti-democratic and anti-individualist orientation, while recognising (contrary to MacIntyre himself) its authentically «communitarian» character.
