The liturgical steps of the catechumenal progression are now well known: they are part and parcel of Christian initiation. On the other hand, the necessity of a progressive initiation to the eucharistic liturgy has perhaps not been stressed sufficiently. This is the reason why the ritual suggests that «liturgies of the Word» are better suited to prospective Christians.
