Does the project of European construction gain by referring to a religious confession? While rationalists refute such a connection in the name of secularism, believers reinterpret the history of the great movements which have swept through Europe – paganism and Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism, Marxism and Nazism – in order to ascertain a remarkable compatibility between the Christian tradition and the European project itself.
