The theological virtues, faith, hope and charity, constitute a fundamental triad in the Christian tradition since St. Paul. As a perfect man, Jesus should offer us a perfect incarnation of these virtues and the Gospels should reveal it. And so it is. The article seeks to better understand how Jesus lived these virtues by noting, in particular, how each one was linked to a key term: “Abba” for faith, “Kingdom” for hope and “small ones” for charity. What is striking is the way in which Jesus was able to be totally faithful to the Scriptures of Israel, to extend their trajectory, so to speak, while innovating in the choice of his key concepts, none of which are explicitly found in the Scriptures.
