The Grace of the Fourth Week of Spiritual Exercises

The fourth Week of Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius has its own particular course and has its own grace. The A. examines what Jesus’ «office of consolation» consists of for each person to whom he appears. Week after week, the spiritual reality of sin and mercy, the personal choice to be made and the deposition of oneself are manifested to the retreatant. In the fourth week, the reality of the glory and joy in the Risen Jesus and the growth of the Church is revealed.

Ignace de Loyola introduit le livre des Exercices spirituels par un ensemble de vingt « annotations », dont la quatrième annonce la répartition de la démarche proposée en quatre « Semaines » brièvement caractérisées : « La première est la considération et la contemplation des péchés. La seconde est la vie du Christ notre Seigneur, jusqu’au jour des Rameaux inclusivement. La troisième, la Passion du Christ notre Seigneur. La quatrième, la Résurrection et l’Ascension – avec l’exposé des trois manières de prier » (Ex 4).
