Should euthanasia be legalised? The human reality of legal structures implies that every law fills a symbolic function in the frame of the human project. Legal structures aim at building up this project, which implies human liberty. The medical art, in such a context, is prompted both by the respect of the human life and of its personal dignity and by the reality of its transpersonal dimension. It is imperative to modify the social and medical behaviour in the presence of suffering of sick persons in terminal stage; yet, legal structures and medical art ought to maintain the orientation toward the project of creating a human universe on which lies that urgency.
