When K. Barth and H. Urs von Balthasar reread the « De Trinitate » by Thomas Aquinas

Reformed or Catholic, Karl Barth and Hans Urs von Balthasar have both centered their theology on the trinitarian mystery of God as revealed in the Passover of Jesus Christ. For Barth, the Lordship of God historically attests the consubstantiality of his three «ways of being» in the economy of the «revelation». In the eyes of Balthasar, the pascal kenosis of Jesus manifests the glorious and dramatic kenosis of the divine persons who unreservedly give themselves to one another. Their confrontation with the thomist definition of the divine persons manifests their hermeneutic distance which keeps them far from the Summa Theologica. It also offers them the opportunity of clarifying the metaphysic import of their divergent comprehension of the divine «person».
